The 2010 Age Change

On 6 April 2010 the minimum age that pension benefits can be taken increased from 50 to 55.

For some clients the change in minimum retirement age may have meant moving to a more suitable pension arrangement so they could access their benefits when they needed them.

How did we communicate the age change to our existing policyholders?

In August 2009 we sent all our policyholders a letter telling them about the main facts they needed to know – in particular how their policy with Scottish Life could be affected.

In February 2010 we issued a reminder letter to our policyholders who had selected a retirement age of less than 55 telling them that we would increase this to age 55.
